Commissions

Process:

I love working with my clients and collectors to bring their ideas to life. The process is such a delightful opportunity to play with visuals and step into someone else's world with my artistic eye.

I like to be creative and go beyond what I see, integrating emotion and/or creative explorations. Pleas be aware that this is part of what makes the commission process fun and engaging for me, and why my art looks the way it does. I will maintain the vision we discuss, and you can also expect the final art may look different than what it looks like "in the real world" as I take some creative license.

I always work with high quality materials and paints. I value knowing my materials are archival and stand up to the test of time.

Think about what you want:

  1. Vision: General idea of what you want and/or why.
  2. Reference:
    1. I travel or bring the subject into my studio: I prefer to work in person, from life, if doing a portrait, still life, landscape, etc. One option is that I can travel to you. If there is an item etc, you can mail it to me or I can see about obtaining it locally. Related costs are variable.
    2. Photos: I am open to discussing the possibility of working from photos either directly or as a starting point for an imaginative piece. If you have specific reference photos, please collect those. If I determine the reference photos are not of adequate (blurry, dark, etc) it may not be possible depending on the idea.
  3. Size: Think about where your artwork will live, whether it will be framed etc and measure the space to get an idea of the size you want.
  4. Medium: Oil, watercolor, etc
  5. Framing: Will you want to coordinate the framing—or have me frame it?
  6. Date needed: Do you need it by a specific date or general timeframe?

We'll discuss the possibilities and I will provide you with an estimate. Depending on the project, I may request a partial or full payment in advance.

Pricing

The pricing for a commission is highly variable due the range of factors and complexity. Generally, a small 5x7 piece starts at around a few hundred dollars, medium pieces (such as 16x20) costing a few thousand dollars, and larger pieces costing more. When you share your request and details of what you would want, I will give you pricing on your piece.

Shipping costs will vary based on size (including framing) and location. International shipping for medium and large works can be fairly expensive, sometimes hundreds or thousands of dollars, so please consider that as you think of your idea.

Unless specifically discussed otherwise, pricing will include only the purchase of the original artwork—not the copyright or a license to use or resell the image for any other purposes (for example, making copies for a book cover, cards, etc). If you are interested in licensing for any additional purposes, please contact me.
